Over 5,000 public WiFi hotspots are planned by the government for Bengaluru.

The State government of Bengaluru plans to install free public Wi-Fi hotspots in at least 5,000 locations throughout the city as part of a significant initiative to improve service delivery and Internet access for citizens.

When this goal is reached, India’s Silicon City will have the highest public Wi-Fi hotspot penetration rate among the cities in the nation.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who oversees Bengaluru Development, and Minister of Information Technology and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge met on Sunday to go over the specifics of its execution. Other businesses in the State will also get access to the free Wi-Fi for the general public.

“We have already located 3,000 hotspots in the city, and we plan to expand that number to more than 5,000 hotspots. With the telecom players and wireless broadband service providers, negotiations have not yet begun.

Mr. Kharge stated that although talks had taken place and the telecom companies had extended an offer of assistance during his previous tenure, the government had regrettably chosen not to act on it.
