Bengaluru police arrest protesters for forming a pro-Palestine human chain on MG Road.

A charge was filed against the organizers for impeding walkways, causing public annoyance, and failing to seek permission to hold the protest, according to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. Vinay Sreenivasa, a well-known activist and advocate who belongs to the civil society organization Bahutva Karnataka, was among those detained.

“Despite informing them of the Karnataka High Court direction allowing protests and demonstrations only at Freedom Park, the large gathering stood on the MG Road footpath, hindered public movement, and disobeyed the court ruling,” the complaint added.

Bengaluru Palestine protest in MG Road

Around 5 o’clock on Monday, a number of activists and members of the civil society gathered near the MG Road Metro Station to call for India to denounce Israel’s war on Palestine. On Monday evening, the police apprehended about 30 activists and arrested them at the Ashok Nagar and Cubbon Park police stations.

Despite this, more than 1000 people gathered on the sidewalk next to MG Road, beginning at the Brigade Road intersection, to form a silent human chain. The organizers of the human chain asked the protesters to remain silent despite “Free Palestine” slogans.
