The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) aims to replace its current fleet of Airport Volvo buses with electric AC buses. At a cost of Rs 150 crore, the corporation plans to install 320 low-floor AC electric buses, each measuring 12 meters. This program is based on the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, and it seeks to leverage the scheme for special support to states for capital expenditure in 2023-24.

The major goal is to eventually replace the diesel Volvo buses that operate on the Vayu Vajra route, which connects various sections of the city to the Kempegowda International Airport, as well as the Vajra AC buses that operate within the city.
