Surat Diamond Bourse, the world's largest office building with a built-up area of 67 lakh square feet, was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The office building consists of nine 15-story towers connected by a 24-foot-wide central'spine' corridor connecting nearly 4,700 office units. The office building, which can house over 67,000 people, also includes secure vaults and a jewelry mall.
It will be the world's largest and modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business. It will be a global centre for trading both rough and polished diamonds as well as jewellery. The bourse will comprise a state-of-the-art 'Customs Clearance House' for Import-Export, a jewellery mall for retail jewellery business and a facility for International Banking and Safe Vaults.
