Bengaluru man loses Rs 95,000 to a scammer posing as a Paytm executive.

A Bengaluru man recently lost Rs 95,000 to a scammer posing as a Paytm executive, according to a report in the Times of India.

Suresh M, a 49-year-old condiments shop owner in the Hosapalya area of the city, received a visitor who, under the guise of working for the digital payment app, told him that he would change the settings of the man's Paytm to allow him to receive a cashback of Rs 150 for every Rs 2,500 transaction.

"I told him I did not need it. Then he inquired whether I was receiving cashback for Paytm transactions. I told him I wouldn't get it for over a year.

The shop owner stated that he gave Rs 1 to the scammer multiple times in order to acquire a cashback activation notification, but received nothing in return. "I paid Re 1 but did not receive a rebate offer message. I paid Re 1 twice more per the miscreant's recommendation, but I received no cashback activation notice," he claimed.

Suresh went on to say that the scammer seized his phone under the premise of activating the cashback offer and promised him it would be activated in a few hours before leaving.
