Sheikh Hasina wins a fifth term as Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the leader of the Awami League, was re-elected for a fifth term on Sunday after her party and its allies won more than 50% of the seats in the 12th general election. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the country's largest opposition party, boycotted the elections. Hasina was re-elected to the Gopalganj-3 constituency in parliament.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won a record fourth consecutive term on Sunday, with her Awami League party capturing two-thirds of the seats in general elections marked by intermittent violence and a boycott by the main opposition BNP and its allies.
