Bengaluru building collapse: Illegal activities going on?

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister inspects the building collapse scene in Bengaluru and threatens stern action against unlawful activities and accountable parties.

On Tuesday night (October 23, 2024), Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the site of an under-construction building collapse in the Horamavu Agara neighborhood of Bengaluru's eastern suburbs. 

Mr. Shivakumar further alleged that unlawful operations were taking place and that he would take stern action against the owner and others. "I was told there was no permission granted. Illegal operations were ongoing. We will take stern action against the owner, the contractor, and everyone else. 

In all of Bengaluru, I shall see... We will arrive to a decision. All illegal development will be halted immediately."The contractor, my officials, and even the property owner will all face legal charges," he stated.

He also said that a 26-year-old male died in the incident. "According to the information I received, there were 21 labourers in Bengaluru. The body of Arman, 26, was recovered. In a day, 26 individuals work in Bengaluru," he remarked. Five persons are trapped, 14 have been rescued, and five are missing. The rescue operation is now beginning. 

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), as well as dog squads, have been deployed at the scene while the search for the persons trapped under the debris continues.
