Nine people have been killed after an under-construction building collapsed in Babusapalya, Bengaluru, and one more body was found during a search and rescue operation on Friday, according to police.
The incident happened on Wednesday as the city was experiencing a lot of rain. The city's widespread construction infractions are the cause of the building collapse tragedy that has taken nine lives.
Similar structures at Babusapalaya were already brought to the attention of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the civic authority that authorizes development, in August of this year, but it was ignored.
In relation to the collapse, a formal complaint has been filed at the Hennur Police Station against Munirajareddy, Mohan Reddy, and Elumalai. They are charged under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act and several BNS sections.
The structure was being built under the name of Bhuvan Reddy, son of Munirajareddy, who has also been taken into custody. Additionally, DCP East D Devaraja said that Muniyappa, the contractor who built the four storeys, has been arrested.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his sadness at the occurrence and his resolve to stop similar tragedies in the future.
