Roads in Bengaluru should be fixed by ELCITA, not BBMP.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the creator of Biocon, has put out a plan to fix Bengaluru's pothole-filled roads in the face of mounting public indignation over the city's deteriorating infrastructure.

Instead of depending on Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractors to maintain the city's roadways, the 71-year-old businessman encouraged the Karnataka government to entrust the task to the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA).

"When we have ELCITA, I don't understand why we use substandard contractors in high density traffic zones," Shaw wrote in a recent post on X (previously Twitter). She argued for ELCITA's road maintenance experience as a workable solution in her job, speaking directly to IT Minister Priyank Kharge and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

As Shaw said, "Water stagnation causes potholes," and insufficient drainage systems are a major contributor to road deterioration in Bengaluru. She commended ELCITA's infrastructure, which includes an effective drainage system and 75 rainwater gathering pits that help prevent waterlogging during periods of high precipitation.

She also posted another photo with the comment, "Electronics City, run by ELCITA, offers a stark contrast to Bommanahalli in Bengaluru, which struggles with potholes and crumbling roads. The secret? Astute management
