Tehran Iran: Israel concludes precise strikes

Early on Saturday, October 26, 2024, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, claiming that the strikes were directed at military targets in retaliation for the Islamic Republic's October 1, 2024, barrage of ballistic missiles that targeted Israel, including about 200 of them. This was Iran's second direct attack on Israel in six months.

The action was characterized as "precise strikes on military targets in Iran" by Israel's military. Iran's capital, Tehran, was the site of audible explosions, however the Islamic Republic claimed they had caused "limited damage."

As the operation progressed and as the Israelis carried it out, U.S. President Joe Biden received updates from Jake Sullivan, his national security adviser, throughout the day on Friday, October 25, 2024, the official added.

While threatening Tehran with "consequences" if it retaliates, the White House said that Israel's attacks on Iran should put a stop to the direct firefight between the two adversaries.

Iran's national news agency IRNA claimed on Saturday (October 26, 2024) that flights on all lines have been canceled until further notice, according to a spokeswoman for the country's Civil Aviation Organization.
