Following news of his worsening health, there were rumors that Khamenei, 85, was in a coma. His message seemed to be an attempt to dispel those rumors.
Khamenei was allegedly "seriously ill" and had covertly appointed his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor to the Iranian dictatorship, according to earlier media reports, including one from The New York Times.
In a Persian statement, Khamenei's office stated that he had visited with the Iranian envoy to ask about his health. Earlier this year, Israeli pager assaults in Lebanon injured Amani.
The official statement claims that Khamenei and Amani met to talk about the ambassador's most recent health situation. Amani had been to Tehran to give an update on his health after being one of the approximately 3,000 persons hurt in a Hezbollah-related bomb in Lebanon in September. Iran and Hezbollah blamed Israel for the explosion, which claimed at least 39 lives.
This comes after Khamenei gave his first sermon in five years last month, marking his comeback to public speech. He stated in the sermon on October 5 that Israel "won't last long" and that he strongly supports the terrorist groups of Hamas and Hezollah in Palestine and Lebanon.
With a rifle in his hand, he defended recent Iranian missile attacks on Israeli targets as a "public service" and reiterated Iran's support for Hezbollah and Hamas in their ongoing wars with Israel.
