BJP’s R Ashoka Criticizes Karnataka Government Over Milk Price Hike

Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, R Ashoka, accused the Congress government of increasing milk prices three times since coming to power, calling it an act of “looting” the people. The latest hike of ₹4 per litre will take effect from April 1, adding to previous increases of ₹3 in July 2023 and ₹2 in June 2024. This brings the total hike to ₹9 per litre.

In 2024, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had increased milk prices by ₹2 per packet but justified it by also increasing the quantity per packet by 50 ml, stating it was not a price hike.

Ashoka criticized the timing of the increase, pointing out that it comes just before the Ugadi festival on March 30. He announced that the BJP would hold statewide protests against the price hikes, with dates to be decided after the festival.
