Karnataka BJP MLA Munirathna Named in Shocking FIR Alleging Gang-Rape, Assault, and Threats

Bengaluru, May 22, 2025 — In a disturbing development, a woman has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against BJP MLA Munirathna, accusing him and his associates of gang-rape, physical assault, and other severe crimes. The FIR, registered at RMC Yard police station on Tuesday, has triggered widespread concern and demands for an impartial investigation.

According to the complaint, the alleged incident took place on June 11, 2023, at Munirathna’s office in Mathikere. The woman claims she was forcibly taken to the MLA’s premises by four men, three of whom she identified. The fourth accused remains unidentified.

In her harrowing account, the woman alleges that Munirathna and two associates compelled her to undress under threats to her son’s life. She was then reportedly gang-raped on the MLA’s orders, during which Munirathna allegedly urinated on her face. Further compounding the trauma, the victim claims she was injected with an unknown substance by the MLA, raising fears about her subsequent diagnosis of an incurable disease earlier this year.

The FIR also details earlier attempts by Munirathna to harass the woman legally. She accuses him of manipulating authorities to file false cases against her, leading to her arrest. After being released, she was approached by the MLA’s aides, who promised help with her legal troubles—only to allegedly lure her back into further danger.

On May 19, driven by mental anguish stemming from the incident, the woman reportedly consumed pills in an attempt to end her life. She later chose to come forward and report the matter to the authorities.

Police have registered the case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376D (gang-rape), 270 (act likely to spread infection of a dangerous disease), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 504, 506, 509, and 34 (common intention).

As of now, there has been no official statement from Munirathna or the BJP. Civil society groups and opposition parties have called for the immediate suspension of the MLA and a fair, swift investigation into the matter.

This case is likely to have significant political and legal ramifications, and it brings attention once again to the urgent need for stronger safeguards for women and accountability among public representatives.
