Kannada Action-Romantic Film ‘Cult’ Set for Republic Day Week Release
Bengaluru | January 2026
The upcoming Kannada film Cult, starring Zaid Khan in the lead, is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on January 23, strategically timed with the Republic Day weekend. Directed by Anil Kumar, the film marks Zaid Khan’s second big-screen outing after Banaras and promises a compelling blend of romance, action, and emotional depth.
Set against the backdrop of rural Karnataka and urban transformation, Cult explores the changing dynamics of relationships as life takes unexpected turns. The story follows Madhava and Geetha, childhood sweethearts whose love blossoms during their village days. However, as education and ambition take them to different cities, Geetha chooses to move on, leaving Madhava shattered. Just when life seems to lose direction, Ithi enters Madhava’s world, helping him heal and rediscover love, eventually leading to a new beginning.
A Massy Transformation for Zaid Khan
According to the makers, Cult presents Zaid Khan in a rugged and mass-oriented avatar, distinctly different from his debut. Sharing screen space with popular Kannada actresses Rachita Ram and Malaika Vasupal, the film aims to appeal to both urban and rural audiences across Karnataka.
Currently in the post-production phase, the team is focusing on delivering a visually rich cinematic experience, ensuring that the film connects emotionally while offering high-octane entertainment.
Music That’s Already Creating Buzz
Renowned composer Arjun Janya has scored the music for Cult. The film’s first single, “Ayyyo Shivane,” has already struck a chord with audiences, quickly going viral and garnering millions of views. Written by director Anil Kumar, the song is sung by Dwapara fame Jaskaran Singh along with Prithvi Bhatt.
Picturised on Zaid Khan and Malaika Vasupal, the track stands out for its vibrant visuals and festive energy. Santosh Shekar’s choreography adds a dynamic layer, enhancing the song’s appeal and replay value.
Strong Technical Backbone
Backed by Loki Cinemas and presented by KVN Productions, Cult is positioned as a high-energy action-romantic entertainer. The film’s technical team includes JS Wali as cinematographer, KM Prakash handling editing, and acclaimed stunt choreographer Ravi Varma, who has designed the film’s intense action sequences.
With a compelling storyline, chart-topping music, and a refreshed on-screen persona for its lead actor, Cult is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Kannada releases of the Republic Day week.
