Bengaluru Metro Passenger Fined ₹500 for Eating on Train as BMRCL Tightens Rule Enforcement

In a bid to reinforce discipline and cleanliness on public transport, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has penalized a commuter for violating metro regulations. A woman travelling from Madavara to Magadi Road on the Namma Metro was fined ₹500 after being caught eating on board—an act explicitly banned under metro rules.

The incident, which took place on April 26, came to light after a fellow passenger recorded the woman consuming food and posted the video on social media. Alerted by the footage, metro officials took swift action. The violator was identified and fined when she re-entered the metro system at Madavara Metro Station on Monday.

BMRCL officials emphasized that the restriction on eating and drinking within metro premises is in place to maintain hygiene, prevent littering, and provide all passengers with a pleasant commuting experience. “Consumption of food and beverages is strictly not allowed on trains or within stations,” a BMRCL spokesperson reiterated in an official statement.

This incident is part of a broader crackdown by BMRCL to enforce metro rules more strictly. In addition to food bans, the corporation recently reinforced its prohibition on gutka and other tobacco products. Another viral video surfaced recently showing a commuter being confronted for chewing gutka on the train, prompting authorities to increase vigilance.

BMRCL has appealed to the public to comply with metro guidelines, underlining that cleanliness and orderliness in public transport are shared responsibilities. Officials believe that stricter enforcement and public cooperation will lead to a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable metro experience for all.
