Karnataka Home Minister Defends CM Siddaramaiah, Blames BJP for Belagavi Incident

In the wake of a controversial incident involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a police officer during a public meeting in Belagavi, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has come forward to defend the CM and pointed fingers at the opposition BJP. The minister claimed that BJP Mahila Morcha members were responsible for provoking the Chief Minister by staging a protest disguised as Congress supporters.

The incident unfolded during a protest rally organized to highlight rising prices of essential goods. As Siddaramaiah stood up to speak, a group of women brandished black flags, triggering the CM’s anger over what he perceived as a security failure. The tense moment escalated when Siddaramaiah confronted Assistant Superintendent of Police Narayan Bharamani on stage, questioning the law enforcement’s preparedness in handling the situation.

Reacting to the controversy, Home Minister Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru that his knowledge was limited to media reports, but preliminary information suggested BJP workers had infiltrated the venue while wearing Congress shawls. "They remained silent when other Congress leaders spoke but created a ruckus as soon as the Chief Minister began his address," he noted.

Parameshwara further stated that he had instructed the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry into any possible lapses. He criticized the BJP's alleged tactic of entering the venue in disguise, stating, "If they had worn their party's shawl, the security apparatus would have been alerted more effectively."

He also questioned the ethics of the BJP members, asking what moral right they had to pose as Congress workers. According to him, the act was a deliberate attempt to provoke unrest and corner the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the BJP seized on the incident to criticize Siddaramaiah's conduct, accusing him of authoritarian behavior. Taking to social media platform 'X', the party condemned the CM’s actions, calling it "an attack on the law and people of Karnataka." They branded the day as a “black day” for the state, invoking hashtags like #DeathOfDemocracyInKarnataka and likening the CM's behavior to that of a dictator.

As the political storm continues to brew, all eyes are on the police investigation, which is expected to shed more light on the incident and its implications for state governance and security protocols.
