Rashmika Mandanna deepfake video creator arrested by Delhi Police

Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake video was posted online and became viral on November 6, 2023.

The Delhi Police said on Saturday that they had apprehended the primary suspect in actor Rashmika Mandanna's viral deepfake. Rashmika's visage was placed on a video of Zara Patel, a British influencer.

The Rashmika case has been under investigation since November, as it was the first of its kind, with similar deepfake videos involving Alia Bhatt, Kajol, and Sachin Tendulkar following suit. Delhi Police investigated various social media users who posted Rashmika's deepfake but were unable to identify the creator.

Recently, a gaming software transformed a video of Sachin Tendulkar and began a fraudulent promotional campaign. After Sachin took to X and clarified that the video showing him inciting his fans to play games on that app was bogus, the Mumbai Cyber Police filed a FIR against it. "These are phony videos. It is upsetting to see widespread misuse of technology. Request that everyone report movies, adverts, and apps like this in significant numbers. Social media networks must be aware and responsive to complaints. Swift action on their part is critical to preventing the spread of misinformation and fake news.
