Namma Metro's Yellow Line facing a 6-month launch delay while nearing completion of construction?

The Namma Metro Yellow Line in Bangalore is almost ready, but riders will have to wait a little longer due to a six-month delay in its debut. The service. Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Ltd.

(BMRCL) blames the delay on the late arrival of metro carriages from China.

The primary reason for the delay is the need for experts from China's coach supply firm to accompany two prototype trains. Unfortunately, the Chinese engineers just obtained Indian visas, resulting in the setback. In 2019, the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) was awarded a Rs 1,578-crore contract to provide 216 metro coaches to BMRCL.

However, they were unable to complete the contract since they had not established a manufacturing plant in India, as required.

According to a senior BMRCL official quoted in the Hindu, "Upon receiving the prototype train, the BMRCL will need a minimum of three months for trial runs and approvals for commercial operations."

The prototype coaches have been shipped from China, and engineers are anticipated to arrive in Bengaluru by the end of this month.

The Yellow Line's opening is likely to be delayed further due to the model code of conduct for the next general elections in April and May. Operations may begin in July once the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) completes testing, signalling system checks, and oscillation trials.

BMRCL considered encashing CRRC's Rs 372 crore bank guarantee, but instead teamed with Kolkata-based Titagarh Wagons to supply the remaining coaches.

The 19-kilometer elevated Yellow Line, which connects RV Road and Bommasandra, is projected to reduce traffic and help commuters in Electronics City, HSR Layout, and Beratena Agrahara.
